The Akita Inu



Named after Akita Prefecture, the Akita Inu is a Japanese breed of large dog which represents good health. The Akita Inu is the national dog of Japan. Its qualities include being powerful and imposing animal with a massive cheast and head like a bear.

Akita Inu stands 24-26 inches and weighs 30-45 kg in females, 35-54 kg in males. Red, fawn, sesame, brindle, and pure white are the five colors of Akita Inu. It has unique positioned ears, erect and triangular set to the side of the head and slanting forward. Its coat is coarse, dense, and harsh.

Akita is aggressive with other dogs, which makes it not a dog for everyone. It is an athletic dog requiring great exercise. The good thing about this dog breed is that it is robust and rarely ill. Furthermore, the Akita Inu needs large meals.
